Hi! My name is Sultan. I am from Saudi Arabia. I graduated from King Saud University in 2009 with a Bachelors degree in Geology. Then, I worked for King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology as an academic researcher for a one year. In 2010, I went to the USA to complete my Masters degree in Geology at Kansas State University. My Masters thesis was on geochemical and clay mineralogical characteristics of the Woodford Shale. Today, I am very happy to be a member of the Geomicro group with Prof. Jon Lloyd here at the University of Manchester. My PhD research is on ‘Precious Metal Recovery using Biotechnological Approaches: Biosynthesis of Functional Nanomaterials’.

Outside of my research I enjoy travelling, meeting people, playing football, and learning about new things, such as a new language or reading articles about Space exploration and science.

My Favourite mineral is gold because it is my path to a PhD and I have the ore sample that looks so pretty. Have a look!
