I’m originally from Pleven, a beautiful town in Bulgaria. I came to Manchester almost 9 years ago to do my BEng in Mechanical Engineering, followed by an MSc in Mechanical Engineering Design. Having spent 4 years trying to master engineering, decided to do a PhD in something quite different. I studied how the pore space structure of materials predetermines their flow properties. The project was quite interesting and involved a good balance between being sat down in front of the computer modelling and getting my hands dirty in the lab.
My current project was inspired by my PhD work and it looks into how biofilm formation in porous media interacts with fluid flow in the context of nuclear waste disposal.
When not working, I’m usually riding my motorbike in the Peak District or taking pictures around the streets of Manchester. I’m also quite a keen traveller and hoping to go around the world one day! I don’t really have a favourite bacteria or a mineral… but I do have a favourite mechanical invention and that is the gyroscope.
