Hello, my name is Olwen and I’m originally from a small town in North Wales. I moved to Manchester for four years to study for an undergraduate Master of Chemistry (MChem), with my final year project based on the chemical evolution of uranic particles in the environment. After this, I moved away for a year to work as a Researcher in the area of forensic explosives at Fort Halstead.
However, I loved my MChem project so much that I’ve now moved back to Manchester to complete a PhD as part of the Next Generation Nuclear CDT. I am now part of the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences and my PhD will involve investigating the long term interactions of radionuclides with iron (oxyhydr)oxides.
Outside of research, I enjoy going hiking in the welsh mountains, cycling at Manchester’s velodrome, playing squash and watching Everton play football.
